Reaching out for support can be a deeply vulnerable experience. Especially when it means slowing down, turning inward, and allowing yourself to be seen by someone new. Taking that first step often requires a level of vulnerability and genuine self-reflection that can feel overwhelming. I don’t take that first step lightly, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be a part of your journey.
I'm Maya Coghlan, MSW, a therapist at Riverfront Counseling. For the past 10 years, I've had the privilege of working with adolescents, teens, adults, couples, and families navigating anxiety, depression, OCD, relationship challenges, and the many transitions and complexities that come with being a person.
I view therapy as a collaborative process grounded in radical honesty, genuine connection, and the safety and trust of the therapeutic relationship. I approach that process from a direct, person-centered, space. I don't see myself as someone who has all the answers or as someone who is here to "fix" you. Instead, I see therapy as a space where we can work together to better understand what's happening, explore what may be getting in your way, and figure out what you want to do differently. You don't have to have everything figured out before you walk through the door. You don't need to know exactly what you need from therapy. We can start wherever you are and work from there. I aim to create the space to experience therapy as a place where you can be honest without fear of judgement and where you don’t have to pretend that everything is okay when it isn’t.
I believe that feeling safe, respected, and understood allows us to be honest. Honesty is often where meaningful change begins. Sometimes therapy looks like slowing down and creating space for what you're feeling. Other times, it means identifying the patterns that may have helped you feel safe in the past and honestly exploring whether they are still serving you in the present. It may mean having a difficult conversation, asking uncomfortable questions, or holding something up to the light so you can see it from a new perspective. Wherever the work takes us, we'll approach it together.
My hope is to offer a space where you feel safe enough to show up and engage in the work of therapy together. I believe that healing isn't a linear goal to achieve. It’s a process that we intentionally choose every day (in big and small ways). I look forward to the opportunity to do that work with you.
